UK Restaurant Chains with Good Gluten Free Options (2025)

Pizza Express

Accredited by Coeliac UK

All of the Classic and now Romana pizzas can be ordered with a gluten free base for no extra cost. They used to serve all the gluten free pizzas on a black board so you knew they were gluten free, this has now changed to be a purple pizza slicer! I like flags or other identifiers like this, gives me reassurance that they are taking extra care. Other options clearly marked on the menu with chicken wings available as a gluten free starter and Halloumi bites available as a side. Gluten free pasta and dough balls with a selection of dips also available. The chocolate brownie is excellent. Gluten free Peroni available.

Franco Manca

May not be suitable for coeliacs due to risk of cross contamination

Franco Manca make it clear that their gluten free pizza bases are cooked in the same oven as the regular ones. Staff very knowledgeable in the branches I have visited (Lincoln, Manchester, Cardiff) and make sure guests are aware of the possibility of cross contamination.  Every pizza is available on a gluten free base for an additional cost of  around £2.50. As well as pizza there is a new chicken and olive dish that is marked as gluten free. All the dips are gluten free. Ice cream and sorbets on offer for dessert.

Pizza Punks

Fairly new chain with a handful of branches across the UK. I have visited the Nottingham branch a couple of times. Different to the usual pizza chains as they offer more unusual combinations of toppings. All pizzas (with the exception of the Beef Birria) are available on a gluten free base for an additional £2. Great selection of original cocktails and gluten free beer available.

Ask Italian

Offers a separate non-gluten containing menu. Large selection of pizza and pasta options as well as a fish main and a risotto. Ice creams, sorbets and the Chocolate Etna on the current menu.

Gusto

Menu is marked with a symbol indicating ‘No Intentional Gluten’ which is the only place I have every seen it worded that way but basically them saying they cant guarantee some didn’t get in there. Not very reassuring for coeliacs. If cross contamination is not an issue then they have some nice fish and steak options and a couple of salad choices.

Bella Italia

Menu clearly marked and can be filtered online to show gluten free options and dishes that can be adapted. They have a lot of bread options here, for example the current menu offers a gluten free flatbread and gluten free bruschetta which is a rare treat! Most of the pizzas and pastas can be made gluten free with no additional cost. They like a flag here too.

Zizzi

Always put flags in the food/stickers on the plate. Huge selection of gluten free pizza and pasta. For other items you need to check manually or online using the allergen filters. Last time we visited a branch in London we were greeted with the dreaded blue folder but I think this depends on which one you are in. Also I’m not complaining, it always reassuring to have a back up confirmation! Gluten free Peroni available. Several dessert options including raspberry cheesecake on the current menu.

Piccolino

Gluten free pasta options but not pizza. Steak and the majority of sauces and sides available as well as a really good selection of and fish options. Online menu not marked with options and no separate menu so you need to use the allergen filters. There is a separate menu available when you visit and many dishes can be adapted to be gluten free.

Giggling Squid

Thai tapas and larger plates. A huge selection here with all of the curries and most of the noodle dishes naturally gluten free as rice noodles are used. The prawn crackers make a great appetiser. There is a selection dishes that they call Showstoppers which are meat and fish mains and most of these are also gluten free. Allergens are listed online and on the main menu.

Pho

Accredited by Coeliac UK

Freshly made Vietnamese street food. Almost the entire menu is naturally gluten free so no adjustments needed. The only thing not suitable is the spring rolls. Rice noodles used for all noodle dishes so you can enjoy stir fries, noodle soups, curries and of course the famous Pho! The children’s menu can be adapted to remove greens, onions or basically anything that would  prevent your child from enjoying the dish, which is a lovely option to have to ensure all the family can enjoy.

Cosy Club/Lounges

Accredited by Coeliac UK

These are separately branded but all part of the lounges chain. Our go to for any meal of the day. Extensive gluten free menu available and staff are always knowledgable and helpful. Breakfast sandwiches ,a selection of eggs and full English in the mornings, sandwiches and fries at lunchtime and a selection of classic meals in the evenings. Gluten free beer available. Something for everyone and the menu is updated regularly.

Bills

Accredited by Coeliac UK

Offers gluten free pancakes which have never seen anywhere else! Open all day from breakfast, brunch and beyond. Plenty of breakfast and brunch options and for later in the day a handful of starters, steak, a curry option and a couple of fish dishes. Also two burger options.  I had the best fish pie I have ever had in the Birmingham branch, another meal that is not on offer very often as a gluten free option.

Mowgli

Indian tapas. Last time I went here I ordered the wrong combination of plates and we ended up with too much meat and sauce and not enough potatoes and rice so I need to give them another try because what we did have was very tasty. Tons of choice here, as Indian cuisine generally doesn’t use wheat flour in main dishes, recommend choosing 2-3 dishes per person with a mix of meat, veg and rice/potato. They offer a tiffin bundle that is gluten free and includes a selection of favourites. Gluten free brownie on the dessert menu.

Honest Burger

Another trusted favourite. Any of the burgers can be made gluten free, All cooked medium unless you request otherwise. One of the first places I saw that offered so many gluten free options over 10 years ago when I was first diagnosed and there wasn’t anything like as much choice. Staff at the branches I have visited (London, Cardiff, Manchester) have always been extremely helpful and reassuring.

Fat Hippo

Gluten free menu available online and in restaurants. Good selection of beef burgers in gluten free buns. Unfortunately no chicken burgers as all are breaded. Big selection of sauces.  Just one starter. Portions are very generous here.

Flat Iron

Multiple locations in London and one branch in Manchester, Leeds and Cambridge and starting to branch out to other areas with restaurants in Bristol and Brighton due to open soon. Limited menu offering flatiron steak and sides at very reasonable prices. All steaks, fried and most of the sauces gluten free.

Miller & Carter

Accredited by Coeliac UK

Separate gluten free menu offering a huge amount of choice. As well as steak there are options of chicken, fish and pork and lamb. New York Cheesecake and Sticky Toffee Pudding available gluten free on the most recent menu! On the pricier side but that is to be expected for quality cuts of meat. Lots of offers and special menus available. Great for celebrating a special occasion.

Pasture

Higher end of the scale price wise but worth it for a treat. Not much information on their website currently but when you visit they do provide a separate menu. Staff let you know about their preparation and cooking processes and chances of cross contamination. Steak and meat dishes available with most sauces and a good selection of sides.

Hard Rock Cafe

Accredited by Coeliac UK

Can be a little on the expensive for what you get but we enjoy the music and these were a lifesaver back in the days when there was a lot less knowledge and choice. Still a firm favourite if I am in a city I don’t know too well and don’t have much time to research. Separate menu gluten free menu available with plenty of choice of burgers and grilled meat/fish. Gluten free buns available.

Wahaca

Separate gluten free menu available. Clearly explains that some dishes are cooked in a shared fryer and highlights on the menu which ones these are as they should be avoided by Coeliacs. Several options for tacos and small plates as well as the larger plate of grilled Sea Bass.. The shared items unsuitable for Coeliacs are mainly sweet potato based or fried plantain. Ice cream for desert.

Chiquito

Tex Mex style diner. Everything marked on the menu and easy to use allergen filters online. A couple of starter options (I’m guessing because the others are cooked in a shared fryer). Gluten free tortillas are available so pretty much all of the fajita options are suitable. Mains include Paella, steak and Sea bass. They don’t offer gluten free buns and I believe the chips are cooked in a shared fryer however they do offer a naked burger with no bun and the chips swapped out for sweet potato fries.

Nandos

Casual dining, order at the till, get your own drinks and food is brought to your table. Cant go wrong with this for value for money. The fries here are gluten free and pretty much all of the chicken options, sides and starters. They don’t have bread so its really just the burgers, flatbreads and wraps that are not suitable. Always a safe option to fall back on when needed to grab something in a hurry.
