Gluten Free Food in Corralejo, Fuerteventura

El Pescador

No separate menu but offers gluten free pizza, pasta and some of the tapas. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. We visited here twice and I had fillet steak with Canarian potatoes and vegetables at the first visit and a pizza on the second. The steak was served on a sizzling griddle and I liked the fact that there were a decent amount of vegetable with it, as at some places we have eaten it has been little more than garnish. Pizza bases full size and very good. A little hard to cut towards the end but possibly because I’m such a slow eater! Gluten free beer available too. Worst Porn Star Martini I have ever had in my life though! This restaurant is right in the middle of the music square so arrive early (before 7pm) or book a table as this area gets very busy.

La Placita

This is next door to El Pescador. This restaurant and its sister restaurant La Playita (just across the square on the seafront) have almost identical menus. They offer a gluten free garlic bread as a starter which I didn’t try as I wasn’t particularly hungry on the night we ate here but definitely will next time as its so unusual to see this.  I had chicken skewer with Canarian potatoes and vegetables. No separate menu, but staff are able to explain clearly what you can eat. Again, we were advised to stick with potatoes rather than fries, due to potential cross contamination.

No Name Tapas

Venezuelan cuisine and cocktails. Almost all of this menu is naturally gluten free. Their speciality is arepas which are corn based. Their popcorn chicken is a popular choice for the kids. There are a variety of full sized dishes as well as smaller plates that you can mix and match to get a taste of everything. This is a really small place so its recommended to book. Just a stone’s throw from the music square on one of of the side streets towards the beach, so you get the added bonus of a sea view!

Spices

Located in an arcade style area just off the main street near the Rock Cafe. We switched to this one after visiting others where we felt the curries all tasted the same after a few visits.  Strange vibes due to location feeling like we were in a shopping centre, but lovely food and staff reassuring in telling me what I could eat. Chicken Kadhai and rice one of the best I have had anywhere.

Taj Curry and Tandoori House

Another new one for us. Prime location in the music square so does get extremely busy and loud (or lively and social depending on your perspective!) if you leave it too late. Complimentary poppadoms and pickle tray on our first visit which was nice. As with many Indian restaurants in Europe you can choose the level of spice you want which is helpful if you want the taste but not always the heat.

La Fogalera

Little Italian restaurant split across two small buildings on the seafront near the town beach. Has gluten free pasta. Specialises in seafood. On the more expensive side but worth it for the sea views. Has the cleanest windows in the whole of Corralejo.

Il Pranzo Y Servito

Small Italian cafe offering gluten free pastas (€1.50 additional cost) and risotto. Also a selection of tapas. Full allergen information available on request. Open at lunchtimes. Pleasant outdoor seating area.

Pepperone

Pizza restaurant near the music square. Offers a gluten free pizza base for €2 extra. The pizzas look amazing, and they have a huge selection of topping combinations to try. We didn’t try here as we’d already had a pizza at El Pescador but its on the list for next time.

Bronx Burger Factory

There are two branches of this restaurant, the smaller original one near the old petrol station at the top of the main street and a newer, larger venue in the small arcade style area near Spices (see above) Gluten free buns are available with most options. They also offer sweet potato fries which are my preference over regular fries.

Toro Beach

Right on the beach, as you would expect from the name. Fully marked menu. I always have the Spanish Tortilla here as it is beautiful. This year I had the fries as they weren’t marked as having gluten in however I didn’t check about cross contamination from the fryers and I did have a mild reaction afterwards, so lesson learned. Service is slow here so just relax and enjoy this prime location with your favourite drink.

California

Fast food type place for eat in or takeaway.  I wouldn’t usually even look at this type of place as much of the food is breaded and fried, however I happened to notice jacket potatoes which are usually gluten free, you will just need to check your filling choices.

Burger King

The only other time I have found gluten free burger king was in Budapest and it was one of the nicest Ive had, separately wrapped with full salad and all the trimmings. I had a quarter pounder with cheese meal here and it was literally meat and cheese, no salad. Filled a craving but didn’t touch the ones I have had previously, quality wise. At the airport on the way home I was also able to to get a gluten free quarter pounder with cheese but was told the fries at that one were not gf. €7 just for the burger. Probably wont be doing that again but its nice to have the option!

Sanus

100% gluten free restaurant. I haven’t managed to visit here as my husband says the menu doesn’t appeal to him at all, so might have to be a solo visit next time so I can actually try it. What appeals to me is that there is gnocchi which is a rarity to get gluten free and also a selection of sauces with the meat and fish, which would make  a difference from plain meat and fish as I have been told at several places that the sauces are not gluten free.

Land of Freedom Tapas

Really popular place where you choose a set of tapas each and receive five dishes for €23 with wine pairings for a further €8 which is excellent value for money. There is also a standard starter and main menu if you don’t fancy tapas. There are loads of gluten free options clearly marked. For the tapas trays there are 3 trays to choose from that are fully gluten free: Land, Sea and Veg. This place is popular and you will need to book in advance.

Ugly Duckling

Scandinavian cuisine, this restaurant is situated towards the edge of corralejo so may be a taxi ride from the main town area depending on where you are staying. Everything is gluten free except for the bread.

Tapas

There are lots of small tapas places which change their menus regularly but in my experience hardly any of them mark the gluten free options on their menu. It is worth asking what each one has as most of the fish options in particular are usually safe. In the smaller bars we often have loaded nachos and cheese options as a snack with our drinks. A lot of tapas that comes with drinks is olives and peanuts.

The larger restaurants such as Oscars that are a specialist tapas restaurant are likely to have more options. I have found that a lot of places offer breaded items such as chicken/cheese which reduces the choice massively. There is a lot of seafood which I am not personally a fan of but is that’s your thing you will have a lot more options.

Bars we went in that stock gluten free beer

Old Town

Waterfall – had an APA and and IPA available.

Blue Rock

La Barra

Beer and a large range of gluten free food is available in the large Hiperdino and Spar supermarkets of which there are many dotted all over the town.
