Gluten Free Food in nottingham

Lagan (City Centre & Beeston)

This place offers a wide selection of small plates as well as more traditional curries and dishes from the grill. We have been in at lunchtime a few times for the tapas. They offer a deal where you can have three tapas for £15.95 (or £13.95 for three vegetarian tapas) so we were able to order nine dishes between three of us and sample most of the menu. All fantastically well presented with friendly service. The menu is fully marked up with gf options and pretty much all of the curries are gluten free. If you want water make sure you ask for tap otherwise you will end up paying a lot for bottled.

Kayal

Keralan cuisine. The dosas here are amazing, made from lentil and rice with a choice of fillings so naturally gluten free. Lots of options for curried and stewed dishes of lamb, chicken beef and seafood. There are a lot of dishes here that I have not seen anywhere else, it really is a new experience. There is a gluten free and vegan bread called Appam made from fermented rice batter which is soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Everything fully marked on the menu and staff knowledgeable and reassuring.

Iberico World Tapas (& sister restaurant Bar Iberia)

The fact that Gordon Ramsay has been here says a lot! There are two branches of this and both menus are slightly different. I would say that for me World Tapas has slightly more choice but really depends on your preferences. Large portion sizes. Nice choice of snacks, tapas and desserts, the highlight being gluten free churros with chocolate sauce which are absolutely to die for! Charcuterie and cheeseboards available with gluten free bread.

Baresca (plus sister restaurant Escabeche in West Bridgford)

Run by two British men, inspired by tapas in Barcelona. The menu has changed a bit recently to not be as accommodating however still quite a few good options. There is an online menu which lists the full allergens in each dish which is really helpful. Disappointing that the patatas braves are no longer gluten free but then the meatballs are gluten free whereas in most other tapas places meatballs are off the table so you win some, you lose some.  Always friendly service and atmosphere. Offers menu del dia and other offers depending on day/time of day.

Hockley Kitchen

Breakfast and lunch cafe with an excellent choice of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. Every sandwich and toasties can be made on gluten free bread and there is a selection of cakes that you don’t often find such as Battenberg. These can be purchased to take away so a good place to stock up your pantry! Full English available with gluten free sausages and toast.

Yamas Meze & Tapas

This is one of the best experiences I have had since following a gluten free diet. I first visited here as part of a company Christmas party where there were about 12 of us eating. I’m not a fan of set menus as I have often found that they say they cater for you but actually just remove the parts you can’t eat so you end up not getting your money’s worth. Not the case here, they actually prepared a different dish and personally brought it out to me and explained what it was and why it was adapted. I have eaten here since and chosen my own selection and it never misses. On the most recent menu the majority of dishes are available gluten free and portions are pretty generous.

ViDa by Lorentes

Authentic Spanish tapas. Menu clearly marked with gluten free options. Sadly no bread but a decent selection of meat, fish and vegetable tapas, along with traditional paellas. There is also a fabulous choice of Serrano/Iberico ham and cheese boards to share. Original and classic cocktails and sangria are great accompaniments. One of the best things about this place is the dessert menu. There is a gluten free cheesecake, and an almond cake – it’s only the churros that cant be made gluten free. Order as much or as little as you want at any time of the day.

Tacquero

This place gets very busy but we have gone as walk -in bookings each time and never waited more than ten minutes for a table but we tend to go mid/late afternoon. The menu here changes regularly and is fully marked with all allergens, There is an offer on where you can choose 2 tapas or small plates as well as totopas (fried tortilla chips) & salsa for £16 which is great. All the tacos are corn so we could eat pretty much everything with the exception of the fried fish fillings. Good choice of drinks including tequila and Mexican spirits. There is a gluten free dessert called Chocolate Horchata Pot one of the ingredients of which is caramelised tortilla chips!

Pizzamisu

Traditional Neapolitan style pizza. A firm favourite with students and foodies alike, Pizzamisu quickly established a great reputation after opening in 2021 during the pandemic. Menu clearly marked. Offers a selection of gluten free starters plus all the variations of sides. Most of the pizzas can be made on a gluten free base for an additional £2 and white bases can be swapped out for tomato on request, so a very flexible menu. Pizzas are delicious, made with quality fresh ingredients. Dessert is ice cream only. Gluten free Peroni available.

Hungry Pumpkin

Breakfast and lunch spot offering sandwiches, omelettes and jacket potatoes, soups etc. Gluten free bread available and a wide selection of sandwich options. Uses locally sourced ingredients. They also offer outside catering for business/group lunches. Breakfast options can be made with gluten free toast.

Compa (City Centre & Beeston)

Small Italian bistro. Menu marked with gluten free options and dishes that can be adapted usually by removing the bread element. Caponata and Burrata gluten free starter choices. All of the main meat dishes are gluten free or can be made so. Would recommend the Sicilian sausage dish, lovely warm comfort food. For dessert the Torta al Caramello is gluten free.
